External Cladding Installation Guide

To ensure a successful and professional installation of external cladding, follow the steps outlined below:
Sequence of Work
  • Frame Battens: Begin by setting up the frame battens.
  • Battens Around Openings: Install battens around windows, doors, and other openings.
  • Intermediate Vertical Battens: Position intermediate vertical battens for additional support.
  • Starter Trims: Attach starter trims or, if required, a bottom angle ventilation strip for air circulation.
  • Vertical Perimeter and Corner Trims: Attach vertical perimeter trims and corner trims. (If using two-part trims, fix only the inner part at this stage).
  • Top Perimeter Trims: Fit top perimeter trims so they engage with the vertical trims for a seamless look.
  • Additional Battening for Cut Planks: Place battens as needed to support any cut planks.
  • Plank Profiles and Joint Covers: Attach plank profiles, joint covers, or center joint trims as required.
  • Outer Components of Two-Part Trims: Finish by attaching the outer components of any two-part trims.
Installation Guidelines
Do's
  • Fixing Boards: For white boards, secure every 600mm. For foiled boards, secure every 400mm.
  • Ventilation Gap: Allow for a continuous ventilation gap to enable heat dissipation from behind the cladding. This gap is created by the battens. For white cladding, a minimum of 25mm is required. For foiled cladding, a minimum of 50mm is needed.
  • Board Ends: Ensure boards are fixed at corners or at the end of cladding areas to provide support, as these areas are more exposed.
Don’ts
  • Excess Silicone: Avoid overusing silicone for sealing joints and corners, as it can become soiled and deteriorate over time, revealing poor workmanship.
  • Pinning Joints: Do not pin joints as it can restrict the expansion gap, causing trims to split and exposing joint locations, which should ideally blend seamlessly.
  • Seek Assistance if Needed: Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need guidance or support
Additional Tips
  • Ventilation and Insect Control: Use a 60mm x 15mm angle ventilator to help maintain a continuous air gap and minimize insect ingress behind the cladding.
  • Minimum Batten Depths: For proper ventilation, ensure minimum batten depths: White cladding requires a 25mm gap. Foiled or colored cladding requires a 50mm gap.
This process ensures that your cladding installation will be durable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing.
