For vertical cladding applications using M-Boss textured panels, follow these detailed steps to ensure a clean, durable, and well-fitted installation. These instructions build on the preliminary work necessary for horizontal cladding, adapted for vertical application.
Preliminary Work
Batten Orientation and Spacing:
Horizontal Battens: Install horizontally for a vertical cladding setup.
Batten Spacing: Fix at 300mm centers for regular planks.
Top and Bottom Battens: A batten is needed at both the top and bottom of the installation for added stability.
Installation Method
Batten Setup:
Drip Trim Installation:
Two-Part Trims:
For vertical cladding, it’s essential to use two-part trims.
Attach the universal trim male extrusion to the vertical edges of the installation for a secure, finished look on flat panel applications.
At the top of the installation, measure, cut, and secure a universal trim to cap off the cladding.
First Cladding Plank:
Measure and cut the first cladding plank, leaving 5-8mm of space at each end for expansion.
Place the plank inside the vertical end trim to align it and begin the cladding line. Use a spirit level to ensure it’s plumb.
Fix the plank with A4 30mm stainless steel nails or A4 8-gauge x 30mm stainless steel screws.
For concealed fixing, nail through the base of the plank, then snap on the female part of the trim to hide the fixings.
Subsequent Planks:
Work from left to right across the installation, fixing each plank by aligning the groove with the tongue of the previous plank.
Attach each plank at every batten center using nail/screw guide lines for concealed fixing, ensuring heads are flush with the plank surface.
Check for plumb alignment every three boards and ensure each plank is properly located before proceeding.
Final Cladding Plank:
Measure and cut the last plank, accounting for the expansion gap.
Use the tongue of the board as a packing piece to hold it securely in the trim. Spot-glue (using cyanoacrylate adhesive) the tongue to the rear of the final plank.
Fix the last plank with A4 grade 30mm stainless steel nails or A4 8-gauge x 30mm stainless steel screws through the face where the finishing trim will conceal them.
Finishing Trims:
Measure, cut, and snap on the vertical trims to cover the edges.
Attach the horizontal top edge trim to complete the installation and give it a polished, finished appearance.
By following these steps, you’ll achieve a professionally installed M-Boss textured vertical cladding system that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional, designed to withstand various environmental factors.
