NatureClad Horizontal Installation Guide

Battens
  • Vertical Battens: Use 25mm x 38mm tanalised timber, installed vertically at 300mm maximum centers.
  • Battens should be parallel, straight, and plumb.
  • Top Horizontal Batten: Install a 25mm x 38mm tanalised timber batten horizontally at the top of the installation.
  • Base: No horizontal batten is needed at the base; it should remain open to allow moisture and air flow.
Membrane
  • When the substrate is not water-resistant, install a breather membrane between the battens and the substrate.
Trim Installation
  • Starter Trim: Secure a Starter Trim to the battens at the base with 25mm A4 stainless steel pins.
  • Ensure the overhang from the bottom of the Starter Trim: 10.5mm for NC300 and 14.5mm for NC270.
  • Vertical Edge/Corner Trims: Trim to fit around the Starter Trim, securing with 25mm A4 stainless steel pins at 300mm intervals.
  • Trims should be straight, plumb, and extend the full height of the installation.
  • Horizontal Top Edge Trim: Attach the male trim of the two-part Top Edge Trim between the vertical trims at the top.
  • Midpoint Joint: If needed, use a two-part Joint Trim. Individual butt joints are not used in NatureClad installations.
Cladding Plank Installation
First Cladding Plank:
  • Position the rear leg of the plank into the Starter Trim channel, allowing an 8mm expansion gap at each end.
  • Secure with 30mm A4 stainless steel Cladding Pins along the plank’s nailing line.
  • Use 3mm x 30mm stainless steel screws as an alternative.
Subsequent Planks:
  • Each plank should cover the fixings of the previous plank ("Secret Fix").
  • Interlock with the previous plank, leaving an 8mm expansion gap at each end before securing.
  • Repeat this process, checking each plank is level and fully engaged.
Final Plank:
  • Cut the last plank to fit the gap between it and the male firtree on the Top Edge Trim.
  • Ensure allowance for the female firtree to complete the two-part Top Edge Trim.
  • Use off-cut packing material to keep the top plank’s outer face vertical and secure it with pins or screws.
Finishing:
  • Cut and secure the second part of each two-part trim to complete the installation.
This installation method ensures a secure, durable, and visually seamless cladding system.
