NatureClad Vertical Installation Guide

Battens
  • Vertical Battens: Use 25mm x 38mm tanalised timber for vertical battens, spaced at 600mm maximum centers.
  • Horizontal Battens: Install a second row of 25mm x 38mm tanalised timber horizontally across the vertical battens, spaced at 300mm maximum centers.
  • Top and Bottom Horizontal Battens: Place a horizontal batten at the top and bottom of the installation.
  • Cross Battens: The two rows of battens set at a 90º angle provide an essential air gap for moisture and air flow.
  • Batten Alignment: Ensure all battens are parallel, straight, and level.
Membrane
  • Breather Membrane: Install a breather membrane between the vertical battens and the substrate if the substrate is not water-resistant.
Trim Installation
  • Universal Channel: Attach a Universal Channel at the base of the installation using 25mm A4 stainless steel pins, with pins spaced 300mm apart.
  • Include 30mm x 4mm drainage slots every 1m along the channel for moisture management.
  • Alternatively, the bottom edge may be installed without a trim for simplicity.
  • Vertical Edge/Corner Trims: Use 2-part versions of vertical Edge/Corner trims. Trim the rear of the trim to fit around the Universal Channel, securing it with 25mm A4 stainless steel pins at 300mm intervals.
  • Trims should be straight, plumb, and the full height of the installation.
  • Horizontal Top Edge Trim: Attach the male trim of the 2-part Top Edge Trim between the two vertical trims at the top of the installation.
Cladding Plank Installation
First Cladding Plank:
  • Place the first cladding plank into the 2-part vertical trim, allowing an 8mm expansion gap at each end.
  • Verify that the plank is plumb, then secure it with 30mm A4 stainless steel Cladding Pins along the nailing line.
  • Secret Fix: Ensure each subsequent plank covers the fixings of the previous plank.
  • Alternative Fasteners: 3mm x 30mm stainless steel screws can be used in place of the Cladding Pins.
Subsequent Planks:
  • Interlock each plank with the previous one, leaving an 8mm expansion gap at each end, and secure as before.
  • Repeat until reaching the top, confirming that each plank is fully engaged, covers the previous plank’s fixings, and is plumb.
Final Plank:
  • Cut the last plank to fit the gap between the final cladding plank and the 2-part trim firtree.
  • Ensure space for the male and female components of the 2-part trim to interlock.
  • Use off-cut packing material to keep the top plank’s outer face in line with the rest of the cladding. Secure with pins or screws as needed.
Finishing:
  • Complete the installation by cutting and securing the second part of each 2-part trim.
This vertical installation process provides a secure, ventilated cladding solution with a seamless finish.
