Can FloPlast gutter systems be painted?
Yes, FloPlast gutters can be painted. To paint, clean the surface using a degreasing agent like sugar soap. Once cleaned, apply two coats of a high-quality gloss paint. Avoid scouring or roughening the plastic surface as this could affect the finish.
Can FloPlast gutters be cleaned?
FloPlast gutters are made from PVC-u and require minimal maintenance. For cleaning, use a warm soapy water solution. For tougher grime, a non-abrasive kitchen cream cleaner can be used.
Can you use solvent cement on FloPlast gutter systems?
Solvent cement is not necessary for typical installations of gutters and downpipes. However, it can be used if required, particularly on extended offsets.
Do FloPlast offer a guarantee on the rainwater systems?
Yes, FloPlast offers a 10-year performance guarantee on all rainwater systems when installed according to FloPlast guidelines, with a site visit. A 10-year guarantee against discolouration is offered for most colors, and a 20-year guarantee is available for the Cast Iron effect.
Do I need to allow for expansion on offsets?
No, you do not need to account for expansion between offset bends in normal installations.
Do I need to fit my gutter with a gradient?
FloPlast recommends fitting domestic eaves gutters with a gradient of no greater than 1:350 fall, particularly when fixed with a rafter bracket. A steep gradient may cause excessive gaps between the gutter and roof.
How can "Cast Iron" Style gutters be connected to traditional cast iron?
FloPlast offers a range of adaptors, including the 2-piece adaptor RD5, for connecting Cast Iron style gutters to traditional cast iron systems.
How can I prevent leaves blocking my gutters?
FloPlast manufactures FloGuard, a product designed to prevent leaves and debris from accumulating in gutters. Additional protection is available with balloons for use in outlets.
How do I connect to a neighbour’s different gutter?
FloPlast has a range of adaptors for most applications. Please refer to the rainwater adaptors section and download the compatibility table for guidance.
How do I install gutters without fascia boards to fix the fascia brackets to?
FloPlast supplies a universal rise-and-fall bracket that comes with a spike to set into mortar between brickwork, allowing you to fix the fascia bracket. Alternatively, rafter brackets can be used to fix directly onto the side or top of a rafter.
How do you make a swan neck downpipe connection?
To make a swan neck bend, connect two 112.5° offset bends together.
How do you stop a union bracket from leaking?
Inspect the union bracket for improper installation, which could cause the gutter to pull out of the bracket. Ensure the gutter is installed to the correct markings to allow for expansion and contraction.
How much of FloPlast gutter is made from recycled plastics?
FloPlast gutters are made from up to 20% recycled plastics, in accordance with British Standards. The gutter system is also fully recyclable after use.
How much room do I need to leave for the expansion of the gutter?
Gutter expansion during normal usage is approximately 10mm per 4-meter length, though this can be as much as 14.63mm under extreme temperature fluctuations between -8ºC and +40ºC.
When should silicone spray be used?
FloPlast recommends using silicone spray/lubricant on all gutter installations, especially on fittings with seals. Avoid using washing-up liquid, as it may damage rubber seals.
Where and how far apart should downpipe clips be placed?
Downpipe clips should be positioned below the sockets of offset bends, joints, branches, and shoes, with a maximum distance of 1.8 meters between clips.
Which screws should be used to secure fascia brackets to fascia boards?
Use 25mm x 5mm non-ferrous round head screws for a 2-hole fixing, and 40mm x 5mm non-ferrous round head screws for a 1-hole fixing. Countersunk screws are also suitable if care is taken not to overtighten, particularly when using power tools.
