How Far Apart Should Fascia Brackets Be Fixed?

The spacing of fascia brackets varies depending on the type of gutter system used. Larger gutter systems, which carry a greater volume of water, require closer spacing for added support. Below are the recommended maximum spacings for various FloPlast gutter systems:
  • Half Round, Square, Deepflow, and Mini Gutters: Brackets at 1-meter centres
  • Ogee Gutters: Brackets at 800mm centres
  • XtraFlo Industrial Gutters: Brackets at 600mm centres
Brackets should be fixed using two 5mm x 25mm screws (1 x 10). Both round head and countersunk screws can be used, ensuring proper installation and secure fitting.

Snowloading
FloPlast gutter systems are designed to withstand snowloading, tested in accordance with British Standard guidelines. The system, when installed with the correct recommended spacings, is able to support 75kg of snow without bracket failure. This ensures durability even in areas that experience significant snowfall.
For context, the weight of one square meter of snow, 12 cm deep, is approximately 96kg. This means that a typical semi-detached house can handle up to 3 tons of snow under heavy snowfall conditions.
It’s important to note that when snow is followed by rain, the snow absorbs water, significantly increasing the weight load. If your area experiences frequent snowfall and your roof has a smooth covering (such as slate), we recommend installing snow guards. These devices help keep snow in place, allowing it to melt gradually and preventing it from slipping off the roof, which could cause damage or injury.
