Installation Guide for Gutter and Downpipe System

Planning and Components
  • Utilize component diagrams to determine the type and quantity of products required for your installation.
Fascia Bracket Spacing:
  • Straight Gutter Runs: Maximum spacing of 1 metre.
  • Niagara System: Maximum spacing of 800mm.
  • Xtraflo System: Maximum spacing of 600mm.
  • 80mm Round Downpipe with Hi-Cap and Niagara Systems: Maximum spacing of 800mm.
  • High Snowfall Areas: Maximum spacing of 400mm.
Fitting Support:
  • Place fascia brackets within 150mm of angles and stopends.
  • Use a supporting pipe clip on shoes, branches, and bends where necessary.
  • Support downpipes below offsets, with maximum spacing of 1.8 metres.
Removing Old Components
  • Remove the old gutter and replace any old fascia board with Swish low maintenance PVC-UE co-extruded fascia board.
Installing Running Outlet
  • Determine the position of the running outlet, typically over an existing drain, and secure it to the fascia board.
Fixing Fascia Brackets
  • Install a fascia bracket 100mm from the furthest point of the outlet.
  • Ensure a fall towards the outlet (1:350 recommended) using a string line.
Fixing Procedures
  • Fascia and Union Brackets: Position to avoid splitting the top edge of the timber fascia board. Use two 25mm x 5mm (1” x 10) screws or one 40mm x 5mm (1½“ x 10) screw for all brackets. "Cast Iron" fascia brackets must be secured with two fixings.
  • Unions: Fixed using a 25mm x 5mm (1” x 10) screw.
  • Outlets and Angles: Fixed using two 25mm x 5mm (1” x 10) screws.
  • Heavy Snowfall Areas: Each fascia bracket should be secured with two 25mm x 5mm (1” x 10) screws.
  • Rainwater Downpipe Clips: Use two 40mm x 6mm (1½“ x 12) screws.
  • Screw Types: Round head screws are preferred; counter sunk screws can be used with caution to prevent overtightening.
Lubrication
  • Lubricate all gutter seals with FloPlast silicone spray lubricant for easy fitting and to accommodate expansion and contraction.
Gutter Assembly
  • Starting from the running outlet, insert the back edge of the gutter under the retaining lip of the wrap-around clip.
  • Apply slight downward pressure to snap the front edge of the clip over the front of the gutter, ensuring to maintain the marked expansion allowance.
Joining Gutter Lengths
  • Use a union bracket or angle to connect the next gutter length, finishing the run with a stopend.
Downpipe Installation
  • Start the downpipe installation at the outlet.
  • For offsets, use two offset bends (with or without a short pipe) or an adjustable offset bend.
  • Ensure a 6mm gap at the top of the downpipe for expansion.
  • Secure pipe connectors to the wall with a pipe clip.
  • Fit a shoe at the base of the pipe secured with a pipe clip or connect the downpipe to an underground drainage system using a 110mm x 68mm reducer (SP96/D96 or D97).
Additional Notes
  • Refer to the snow loading statement on page 26 for detailed guidelines regarding snow load considerations.
  • Always ensure all fixings are secure and follow local building regulations and standards during installation.
