Installation Process for Panels on Flat, Dry Walls and Ceilings

Follow these steps to install panels on flat, dry walls and ceilings effectively:
Step 1: Prepare Trims
  • Select and fit any necessary trims (e.g., corner, edge, or ceiling trims) for a neat finish.
Step 2: Measure and Cut Panels
  • Measure the length of the first panel and cut it to size. If the last panel aligns with a feature corner, you may need to trim more from the first panel to ensure the last panel fits as a complete piece.
Step 3: Prepare Painted Surfaces
  • If installing over painted surfaces, lightly sand the area to create a keyed surface for better adhesive bonding.
Step 4: Apply Adhesive
  • Apply adhesive to the wall or the back of the panel in a zigzag pattern to ensure even bonding.
Step 5: Position and Level the Panel
  • Starting from the left, fit the panel into the trim. Use a spirit level to ensure it’s vertical before pressing it firmly against the wall.
Step 6: Check Bonding
  • Ensure the panel is securely bonded to the wall. Repeat these steps for each panel.
Step 7: Mitre Ceiling Trims
  • For ceiling installations, mitre the front face of ceiling trims where required for a clean finish.
Additional Installation Notes for Walls
  • Corner Trims: Use internal or external corner trims for neat corner transitions.
  • Load-Bearing Accessories: Do not attach heavy items (e.g., grab handles) directly to panels. Use spacers (metal or wood) to take up the panel depth and seal with silicone.
  • Shower Areas: In shower areas, apply a 3-5mm silicone bead to the panel's rear rebate to prevent moisture ingress.
  • Sealing Around Baths or Shower Trays: Run a silicone bead around the edges and press panel ends onto this bead for a waterproof seal.
Installation Considerations for Ceilings
  • Halogen and Shrouded Lights: Maintain a 10mm gap between halogen bulbs (max 35 watts) or light shrouds and the panels to prevent heat damage. Consider low-energy bulbs to reduce heat output.
  • False Ceiling Installations: Ensure there’s at least a 4” (100mm) gap above panels for heat dissipation if they’re installed as or on a false ceiling, as heat buildup could distort the panels.
Usage Notes
  • Adhesive Tape: Avoid using any adhesive tapes on the panel surface.
  • Window Sills: Panels are not recommended as internal windowsills due to potential surface damage; a PVC sill is a more durable option in these areas.
These steps and guidelines will help you install panels securely and achieve a polished, long-lasting finish.
