Panels Fitted To Damp Or Damaged Walls

When installing cladding panels on damp or damaged walls, proper preparation is essential to ensure a stable and long-lasting installation. Follow these steps to create a secure base for your panels:
  • Step 1: Apply a Breather Membrane Attach a breather membrane to the walls to provide a barrier that allows moisture to escape, protecting the panels and wall structure over time.
  • Step 2: Attach Wooden Battens Install wooden battens (38mm x 19mm) horizontally across the wall, spacing them 400mm apart. Use countersunk screws and wall plugs to secure them firmly to the wall. This step creates a level base for the panels.
  • Step 3: Secure Trims to Battens Fix trims onto the battens at a maximum spacing of 400mm using 4mm countersunk screws or 12mm staples. These trims will provide a clean edge and finishing detail for the panels.
  • Step 4: Measure and Cut Panels Measure and cut the first panel to the required length. If the last panel will fall on a feature corner, consider trimming a bit more from the first panel to ensure the final panel in the row fits neatly.
  • Step 5: Secure Each Panel Fix each panel to the battens with countersunk screws or 12mm staples, securing them through the lip of the panel if possible to hide the fixings. Repeat this step for each panel, ensuring each is firmly attached for a neat, professional finish.
By following these steps, your panels will be securely installed and protected, even on walls that may have initial dampness or damage.
