Frequently Asked Questions About Underground

Are FloPlast Drainage Systems Compatible with Other Brands?
Yes, FloPlast drainage systems are fully compatible with systems manufactured to BS EN 1401, BS 4660, BS EN 13476-2, and BS EN 13598 standards.
Can Block Paving Covers Be Used with Plastic Covers and Frames?
No, block paving covers should be used instead of plastic covers and frames, not in conjunction with them.
Can FloPlast Inspection Chambers Be Installed Internally?
Yes, the large inspection chamber can be installed internally if it includes a double-sealed cover (D931). The mini access chamber can also be installed internally when paired with the D830 cover.
Can Underground Pipe and Fittings Be Used Above Ground?
Underground pipes lack UV stabilization and are not colorfast, typically manufactured in terracotta to meet identification standards. Building inspectors may require these pipes to be removed if used above ground due to these differences.
Does the FloPlast Underground Drainage System Have a Pressure Rating?
No, FloPlast underground drainage systems are designed solely for waste water and are not rated for high-pressure applications.
Does the System Require a Fall?
The recommended fall for installation varies depending on the number of appliances, local regulations, and soil conditions, typically between 1:40 to 1:80.
Connecting 110mm to 160mm Drainage Pipes
To connect 110mm drainage pipes to 160mm, use the FloPlast level invert reducer (D99).
Connecting Domestic Channel Drainage to 110mm Underground Pipes
FloPlast supplies an end outlet that clips into the end of the channel drainage length and connects to 110mm pipe. Alternatively, a cut-out on the bottom of the channel can fit 110mm pipe.
Connecting PVC Pipes to Clay Pipes
FloPlast provides a range of adaptors for connecting PVC pipes to clay pipes; refer to our section on Underground Drainage Adaptors.
Clearing Debris from a FloPlast Bottle Gully
To clear debris, remove the grating, twist the internal baffle tube anti-clockwise, and pull it out to access the trap.
Installing FloPlast Pipes at a Steep Gradient
FloPlast pipes can be installed at gradients up to 1:10, as high sewage flow velocities do not cause increased pipe erosion or solid deposition.
When to Use Large Inspection Chambers
The mini access chamber is suitable for depths up to 600mm. For depths up to 3m, use the large inspection chamber and apply a double-sealed cover (D931) for depths between 1.0m and 3m.
What Is a Deep Inspection Chamber?
This chamber type, with a 350mm restricted opening, can be installed up to 3m deep and is compliant for both foul and surface water drainage.
Load Capacity for FloPlast Inspection Chambers
FloPlast inspection chamber covers meet BS EN 124 requirements. The Mini Access Chamber Covers (D830, D831) and Large Inspection Covers (D930, D931, D923) have an A15 (1.5 Tonne) rating, while the D934 is rated B125 (12.5 tonne).
Cast Iron Cover and Frame (D923) Usage
The D923 Cast Iron Cover and Frame can only be used for replacements in existing builds, as new installations require screwed-down covers and frames by regulation..
