FloDrain offers an easy and efficient solution for surface water drainage. The following steps outline the process for installing a 110mm domestic channel drainage system:
Prepare the Trench:
Dig a trench for the FloDrain system, allowing for a 50mm deep compacted sand base. The trench should be wide enough to accommodate a minimum of 100mm of concrete backfill on each side of the channel.
Marking the Finishing Height:
Fix a string line to establish the finishing height of the grate, which should be 2mm below the final surface level.
Ensure Proper Fall:
Allow a fall of approximately 5mm for every 1m length of the drainage system (equivalent to a 1:200 gradient) to ensure proper water flow.
Begin Installation at the Lowest Point:
Start at the lowest point of the run and install the channel lengths. Cut lengths should be placed at the furthest point from the outlet.
Seal Joints and End Caps:
Use silicone sealant to seal the joints and end caps of the FloDrain system.
Install End Cap at the Highest Point:
Install an end cap at the highest point of the FloDrain channel to seal the system.
Connect to Drainage Pipe:
At the lowest point of the FloDrain, connect it to a 110mm PVC-U BS EN 1401 drainage pipe using either an end outlet or the preformed channel bottom outlet to facilitate drainage. For connections to other materials (e.g., clay pipes), contact FloPlast for further details.
Cut to Length:
The FloDrain system can be cut to the required length using a hacksaw. Ensure the grate is fitted before securing the system in place.
Protect the Grate:
Protect the grate with tape before pouring concrete to avoid damage.
Concrete Installation:
Pour concrete around the FloDrain system, finishing it 2mm above the level of the grate.
Curing Time:
Allow the concrete to cure for at least 72 hours before using the area or removing the grates.
Removing the Grate:
To remove the grate, use a screwdriver to dislodge it by running the tool along the edge.
Paving Installation:
If installing block paving or paving slabs, use concrete to haunch around the channel to a height that allows the blocks or slabs to sit 2mm above the level of the grate.
Note: All FloDrain installations must be set in concrete for stability and long-lasting performance.
