✨ Complete your roofline with confidence. The 500mm White Double-Ended Internal Fascia Corner delivers strength, durability, and a seamless professional finish to every project.
1. What is the safest way to access a work area when installing fascia boards or cladding?
Always use a full scaffold platform or a purpose-made cantilevered deck system with guard rails. Never attempt to work from an unsupported ladder or unstable surface.
2. How should boards be stored and handled?
Boards should be loaded and unloaded by hand, with both ends of a 5m length supported. They should be stacked no higher than 1m, in their packing sleeve, on a flat base, and kept away from solvents, paint, creosote, and bitumen.
3. What tools are recommended for cutting or shaping?
Conventional carpentry tools, including fine-toothed saws, can be used. Power tools may also be used at speeds suitable for timber. Pre-drilling is not necessary for nail or screw holes.
4. Can fascia boards support roof tiles?
Yes, Summit Sumo 20mm and 16mm boards, including foiled boards, can support the weight of the lower row of tiles without requiring a tilt fillet or kick plate.
5. What type of fixings should be used?
A4 grade stainless steel plastic-headed nails or capped screws should be used to ensure durability and resistance to corrosion.
6. What are the fixing guidelines for cover boards and cladding?
9mm Cover Boards: Nails (50mm) or screws (40mm), max centres 600mm (white) or 400mm (foiled/coloured).
20mm and 16mm Boards: Nails (65mm) or Nails (50mm), max centres 600mm (white) or 400mm (foiled/coloured).
Flat Boards: Nails (40mm) or screws (40mm).
Cladding: Nails (30mm), max centres 400mm. Ensure plank ends are always nailed.
7. What expansion gaps are required during installation?
A minimum 4mm gap must be left at the end of each board. Where two boards meet, leave an overall 8mm expansion gap.
8. Which sealants should be used?
A low modulus silicone (BS 5889 Type A) should be used. A primer is required when bonding to GRP, stainless steel, aluminium, or untreated wood. Sealants should not be used with polycarbonate sheets.
9. How should asbestos be dealt with if encountered?
By law, asbestos materials must be removed only by trained operatives under controlled conditions. If asbestos is suspected, contact your Local Authority.
10. Why is ventilation important in roof voids and cladding installations?
Ventilation prevents condensation of warm air on cold surfaces, which can lead to rot and mould. For foiled cladding, a free air path must be provided between vertical battens, with ventilation continuity achieved by venting into the eaves or leaving a 10mm gap between the cladding and soffit.
