FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate 20 Tonne 1000mm x 500mm x 400mm
High-Strength Underground Soakaway & Stormwater Attenuation Crate
The FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate is a high-performance underground water management solution designed to capture, store and control excess surface water runoff. Suitable for soakaway and stormwater attenuation systems, this durable drainage crate helps reduce the risk of surface flooding, waterlogging and excessive pressure on surrounding drainage infrastructure.
Manufactured from recycled polypropylene (PP), the DC20 combines a lightweight cellular construction with excellent structural strength. Designed for domestic drainage and landscaping applications, each crate offers a 20 tonne per square metre vertical loading capacity (200kN/m²), providing reliable performance when installed in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.
Measuring 1000mm x 500mm x 400mm, each drainage crate provides a total volume of 200 litres, with an impressive 96% void ratio and approximately 192 litres of water storage capacity. This efficient design allows large volumes of stormwater to be temporarily stored underground before being released into the surrounding ground or drainage system, depending on the installation design.
The modular construction allows multiple crates to be connected together to create larger underground drainage systems. Each unit features an interlocking cellular design, with locking clips and connectors helping maintain structural stability and alignment during installation and throughout its working life.
Key Features
1000mm x 500mm x 400mm drainage crate with approximately 192 litres of water storage capacity
High-strength construction with a 20 tonne/m² vertical loading capacity and 96% void ratio
Manufactured from recycled polypropylene with a lightweight 6.8kg modular design
Suitable for underground soakaway and attenuation systems with 110mm and 160mm drainage connections
The FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate is particularly suitable for garden drainage, landscaped areas, domestic soakaways and underground surface water management systems. Its modular design allows crates to be arranged into different configurations, making it easier to create a drainage solution that suits the available space and required water storage capacity.
The system accommodates 110mm and 160mm drainage pipe connections, allowing integration with common underground drainage systems. When used as a soakaway, collected rainwater can gradually disperse into suitable surrounding ground. For attenuation applications, the stored water can be released at a controlled rate into an appropriate drainage network.
Manufactured under quality management and inspection processes certified to BS EN ISO 9001:2015, the DC20 provides a dependable solution for managing surface water in domestic environments.
Installation Information
The DC20 must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the drainage system design. The crates should not be installed where groundwater is present. A minimum cover depth of 500mm (0.5m) is required in areas where a ride-on mower may be used. Other installation conditions and loading requirements should be assessed before installation.
For larger projects, the crates can be supplied in pallet quantities of 12 units, providing approximately 2.4m³ of gross crate volume per pallet. Full pallets include the necessary locking clips and connectors for assembling the modular system.
Combining high water storage capacity, strong recycled polypropylene construction and flexible installation options, the FloPlast DC20 20 Tonne Drainage Crate 1000mm x 500mm x 400mm provides a practical, durable and efficient solution for underground soakaway and stormwater attenuation applications.
1. What is the FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate used for?
The FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate is designed for underground stormwater management, helping control excess surface water and reduce the risk of flooding and waterlogging. It can be used to create soakaway or attenuation systems that temporarily store rainwater before allowing it to disperse into the surrounding ground or drainage infrastructure.
2. What size is the FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate?
Each FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate measures 1000mm long, 500mm wide and 400mm high. Its modular design allows multiple crates to be connected together to create an underground drainage system suited to the required storage capacity.
3. How much water can a FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate hold?
Each DC20 Drainage Crate provides approximately 192 litres of water storage capacity, with a 96% void ratio. This allows the crate to store a large volume of water while maintaining a lightweight, structurally supportive design.
4. What is the load-bearing capacity of the FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate?
The FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate has a specified vertical loading capacity of 20 tonnes per square metre (200kN/m²). The suitability of the system depends on the installation conditions, including ground characteristics, cover depth and anticipated surface loads.
5. Can FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crates be used for soakaway systems?
Yes. The DC20 Drainage Crate is suitable for creating underground soakaway systems, where collected rainwater is temporarily stored before gradually dispersing into suitable surrounding soil. The ground must have adequate drainage characteristics, and the installation should follow the appropriate design requirements.
6. What is the difference between a soakaway and an attenuation system?
A soakaway system allows stored rainwater to gradually infiltrate into the surrounding ground, while an attenuation system temporarily stores stormwater before releasing it at a controlled rate into suitable drainage infrastructure. FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crates can be incorporated into either system when correctly designed and installed.
7. What are FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crates made from?
The crates are manufactured from recycled polypropylene (PP) using durable injection-moulded components. Their engineered cellular structure combines strength with a lightweight design, with each crate weighing approximately 6.8kg.
8. What size drainage pipes can connect to the FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate?
The FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crate is designed to accommodate 110mm and 160mm drainage pipe connections, making it suitable for integration into compatible underground surface water drainage systems. Appropriate connection details should follow the manufacturer's installation guidance.
9. How deep should FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crates be installed?
The DC20 Drainage Crate has a specified minimum cover depth of 0.5 metres, including areas where a ride-on mower may be used. Installation depth must also account for ground conditions, anticipated loading and the overall drainage design. The crates should not be installed where groundwater is present.
10. Can FloPlast DC20 Drainage Crates be connected together to create larger systems?
Yes. The interlocking modular design allows multiple DC20 Drainage Crates to be connected together to create larger underground water storage systems. Locking clips and connectors help secure the units in position. A full pallet contains 12 crates, providing approximately 2.304m³ of effective water storage capacity, and includes the clips and connectors required for the pallet configuration.
