Returning an item – Damaged

In the event you receive damaged goods we will arrange a replacement item for you. However, it is your responsibility to notify us within 72 hours of receipt that an item has been received damaged (please see risk below).

Returning an item – Risk

On receipt of the delivery you, the customer, are responsible for those goods and any loss or damage to the goods shall be at your own risk.

Returning an item – Incorrect

If you receive incorrect goods it is your responsibility to notify us within 72 hours of receipt at which point we will make the necessary arrangements.

Delivery shortages

Firstly, our carrier delivers parcels/packages. Any shortages of them must be reported to the driver on receipt. Secondly, shortages of contents of the parcel(s)/package(s) against the enclosed Brissco advice note must be made within 72 hours.

Can I paint over silicone sealant

No, paint does not adhere to a silicone sealant. We recommend using a hybrid polymer sealant such as Fix ALL Flexi when the seal needs to be over-painted.

Can you use silicones on natural stone for example marble

Standard silicone contains silicone oil that can penetrate into porous stone and therefore will show a darker edge next to the seal. This is called edge-of-seal contamination and cannot be removed or reversed. Specially formulated natural stone silicones prevent this and will therefore not lead to edge-of-seal contamination when used on natural stone.

How can I remove spilled sealant

If the sealant has not yet cured and has been spilled on a non-porous or smooth substrate, it can be removed using Swipex, or a dry cloth and white spirit. Porous surfaces are either difficult or impossible to clean. Even non-cured silicone will likely leave a stain behind. We therefore recommend that the upmost care is taken when working on porous surfaces and to always use masking tape for protection. Immediately remove the tape after using the finishing solution to prevent skin formation over the masking tape.

How must I store sealants

It is best to store sealants in a cool and dry location where the temperature is between 5°C and 25°C. When the product has been opened, seal the nozzle as much as you can to ensure that air humidity cannot come in contact with the product, which would result in curing inside nozzle/cartridge.

I have used a special silicone sealant for bathroom fixtures but there is still mould. How is this possible

Anti-mould elements are added to protect the silicone sealants used in bathroom and kitchen applications. As a result, the sealant is able to prevent against mould growth for a long period of time. However, if ventilation is poor or soap residue remains on the sealant joint for long periods of time, the anti-mould properties can be affected. Stay Fresh Neutral and Stay Fresh Acetoxy silicone sealants both offer a lifetime guarantee on protection against discoloration due to mould growth. However, this does not remove the need for regular cleaning, as soap or other deposits on the surface of the sealant joint can grow mould.

Under which conditions can sealants be used

The sealant must be applied on a correctly prepared surface. The technical data sheets will therefore provide the specific instructions for each individual product. Generally: The surface must be clean, dry and free of dust and grease. Use primer if required (for porous surfaces). The ambient and substrate temperature must be more than +5 °C. A frozen surface may lead to very poor adhesion or even no adhesion at all. Never use a silicone sealant in the rain.

What are the correct dimensions for a sealant joint

Ensure the minimum sealant joint width is 6mm but no more than 20mm. The sealant joint depth will depend on the width. Continue using a 6mm sealant joint depth up to 12mm width. When higher than this, the sealant joint depth should be half the joint width.

What is the difference between sealants and adhesives

Adhesives connect materials to each other but are not always elastic. Sealants also connect materials, sealing the joint in between substrates and can also absorb the movements within the joint. Sealants tend to make a weaker connection between two substrates. Some hybrid products such a Fix ALL offer both a strong connection, and a perfect seal. The hybrid technology combines both properties.
