Installing a box end construction at the gable of your roof can enhance the aesthetics of your home while providing structural integrity. Follow these steps for a successful installation:

A. Prepare the Fascia and Soffit

Finish the Fascia: Ensure the fascia board is level with the face of the rafter at the gable.
Cut the Soffit: The soffit should overhang the fascia by approximately 10mm (0.4 inches). It can be cut square or mitred depending on your design preference.

B. Measure and Cut the Box End

Select the Deep Board: Choose a deep board that will serve as the box end construction.
Measure the Box End: Measure the length required for the box end. The front edge should tilt upwards to align with the height of the fascia board.
Cut the Box End: Using your saw, cut the board to the measured length, ensuring the front edge has the correct tilt.

C. Prepare the Fascia Return

Measure the Fascia Return: Measure and cut the fascia to create a return that meets the gable wall.
Cut Corner Joint: Remove a section from the corner joint of the fascia to fit around the rafter properly.

D. Install the Box End

Position the Box End: Hold the cut box end in place at the gable.
Fix the Bargeboard: Secure the bargeboard directly to the gable rafter using nails or screws. Ensure it is flush with the edges for a clean look.

E. Final Checks

Level Everything: Use a level to ensure that the fascia, soffit, and box end are all even and aligned correctly.
Secure All Components: Once satisfied with the alignment, secure all components in place, ensuring that the bargeboard, fascia, and soffit are firmly fixed.

Pre-drill Holes: For hardwood materials, pre-drilling holes for screws can help prevent splitting.
Safety First: Always wear appropriate safety gear when working with power tools and ladders.
